Nokia Windows RT prototype.

Rumors have been around for some time about a Nokia branded Windows powered tablet. Meanwhile, a member of the forum on Windows Phone Central posted a picture that he claims is of a prototype Nokia tablet, powered by Windows RT. The specs include a 1.3GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16point touchscreen, HDMI-Out, USB port and a SIM slot. The poster states that Nokia pulled the device because of the dated Tegra 3 silicon. There still are questions about the legitimacy of the picture. Note the lack of a rear camera, something that is strange considering Nokia's heavy focus on cameras these days.

Just the other day, a Nokia Lumia road-map of sorts mentioned two tablets in the works. One has an 8.5 inch screen and the other has a 10.5 inch panel and is 8.5mm thin. Both will be offered in Green, Black, Pink, Blue, Green, Yellow and White and will feature aluminum casing. The camera on the tablets is said to feature Nokia's new Zoom technology which is supposed to be part of the Finnish OEM's media event.

Apple's new TV set 'will have NO adverts.

U.S media is reporting that Apple wants viewers of its TV set to be able to skip through all adverts at the press of a single button when watching on-demand shows. It would be a slight difference to the current model seen on set-top boxes, such as Virgin's TiVo, that lets users fast-forward though advertising on recorded programs. 

However, sources claim the service would not be used with live television. Rumours about an Apple TV set began last summer when sources claimed the company had been in talks with American cable firms about streaming live TV to an upcoming set.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple has not yet reached a deal with American cable companies.

Apple already sells a £99 'Apple TV', a small device which plugs into a HD TV. Apple also produced an app for iPhones and iPads letting owners control this device from their gadget. A full Apple TV is expected to improve on this functionality, allowing users to see information about programmes they are watching and to change channels.

In April, analyst Brian White from Topeka Capital Markets claimed in a research note that the Apple TV would have a 60-inch screen and cost £1,650. These rumours have not been confirmed or denied by Apple. White additionally claimed, after meeting with Apple suppliers in China and Taiwan, that the Apple TV set could be controlled using what's been dubbed iRing - a ring worn by the viewer that could control channels, volumes and, potentially, the adverts when the viewer points their finger at the screen. He added the ring could also have motion detectors built in. White believes this ring will be accompanied by a small iPad-sized screen, to add security, telephone and video-conferencing tools.

Apple is reportedly offering $280million for an Israeli company called PrimeSense that created the motion sensing technology used in Microsoft's Kinect sensors. 

The PrimeSense technology can 'see' objects in 3D and Apple is believed to be wanting to buy the company to add this software to a gesture-controlled system for its TVs.

The phone also features a 2.1 MP secondary camera for video calling. Both cameras can record HD videos at 30fps. The camera on this phone is splendid, and one of the best when it comes to lowlight shooting. The device should be amazing for entertainment. The 5-inch screen should be ideal when watching HD content on the go, and such a large screen means that reading can also be done quite effectively. The text on the phone looks crisp and clear as the pixel density of the phone is high.

Nokia Lumia 1020 with 41 megapixel camera launched.

Nokia on Thursday launched new smartphone Lumia 1020 with 41 megapixel camera, saying it will strengthen the company's leadership in imaging. While unveiling the new device in New York, Nokia said its Lumia 1020 smartphone "is able to produce some of the sharpest images possible by any digital camera."

The Nokia Lumia 1020's 41 megapixel camera comes with Xenon flash for still images, LED flash for video. It has ZEISS optics' 6 physical lenses. It also has 1.2 MP front camera that can be used for making video calls.

Using a feature called dual capture, the phone 1020 simultaneously takes a high-resolution 38-megapixel image for editing opportunities, and a five-megapixel picture that is easy to share on social networks, Nokia said.

Nokia Lumia 1020 can also handle sound pressure levels six times louder than conventional smartphone microphones. 

"We want to take people on a journey from capturing pictures to recording and sharing their lives," said Stephen Elop, president and chief executive.

The phone is built on Microsoft Windows 8 platform and has 1.5 GHz dual-core processor from Qualcomm. It has 32 gigabyte internal memory, 2GB RAM, and 7GB of cloud storage that can be accessed by mobile Internet. Nokia will start selling Lumia 1020 in the US exclusively with AT&T from around July 26, at a price of USD 299.99 (₹ 17,890) on a two-year contract.

Lumia 1020 pre-orders begin July 16th, and the phone will become available online and in stores on July 26th. The Lumia 1020 will also be available globally. Earlier, Nokia launched a Pureview 808 model which had similar sensor. The phone was launched in India at ₹ 34,999. "The Lumia 1020 will bring new meaning to pictures and continues to strengthen Nokia's leadership in imaging," Nokia President and CEO Stephen Elop said.

Spice launched Pinnacle smartphone with full-HD screen at ₹ 16,990.

Thanks to the dual-core processor, we could easily browse the web and download apps from the Play Store. It smoothly handled heavy graphic games like Shadowgun. The onscreen keyboard is superb, but there is a slight lag when many apps are running in the background. The Stellar Pinnacle packs in an 8MP rear camera loaded with settings such as HDR and other regular modes you would find in a point and shoot. But don't expect outstanding results as we noticed noise in almost all images captured with this camera. For video calling Spice has added a 5MP front camera with HDR setting.

Top 5 Graphics Cards you can wish to buy.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 670:

Almost identical in performance to the AMD Radeon HD 7970, despite costing £30 less, the nVidia GTX 670 is a fantastic deal. And the best news is that this is only the card running at its default settings. It's also much lighter on power – around 55 watt – and quieter. It's still not cheap, but it's clearly the card to buy if you want excellent game framerates without a £400+ price tag.


nVidia GeForce GTX 680:

AMD's 7000 series relies on a graphics architecture that is drastically different from previous AMD chips, so we may still see much better performance with driver improvements, but right now, if you have £400 to spend on a graphics card, the GeForce GTX 680 is the clear winner.


Asus GeForce GTX 660 Ti:

The Asus GeForce GTX 660 Ti is a nice card that offers decent performance, and just about gets the nod ahead of the now rather old-fashioned 7870 cards. However, the loss of a memory controller is a significant setback, and given that the price difference between this and the GTX 670s is only around £20, it's really not recommend this over its more expensive sibling. Once the price falls another £20, it may start to become a very interesting product.


HIS 7970 3GB:

The new architecture marks quite a change for AMD, although this hasn't yet turned into a card that'll blow away gamers. The 7970 is a nice card, but not one that's ground-breaking in terms of performance, and we suspect there is potential for nVidia.


Asus Radeon HD 7870:

Overall the Asus Radeon HD 7870 DirectCU II looks like a pretty good graphics card. The problem is that it finds itself up against the brand new nVidia GTX 670. And on that score it's a loser. The latter card may be more expensive, but for an extra £50 it gives you far more performance, and a slight improvement in power consumption too. Unless you really can't go up the extra, the 7870 remains, without a price drop, the second choice in its category.

Samsung Ativ Q, a hybrid tablet with dual OS.

One of Samsung's new device is the Ativ Q, a hybrid tablet and laptop running both Windows 8 and Android.
Yes, you heard it right, it's dual OS device. The convertible PC can flip, fold and transform into different modes. Samsung calls them 'tablet', 'typing', 'stand' and 'floating'. The first two are self-explanatory while the others mean you can have the screen flipped right over to face the other way or at various different angles between this and being docked with the keyboard.
There's not enough room for a trackpad but a touchscreen pretty much negates the need for this anyway.

The Ativ Q is reasonably thin at 13.6mm but is a lot heavier than a typical tablet at 1.29kg – usual for a hybrid, though.

Nokia criticizes Microsoft for lack of Windows Phone updates and apps.

It looks like Nokia has finally come out in the open against Microsoft's slow pace of pushing updates to Windows Phone 8.

While the Finnish handset giant has been churning out new handset models and updated versions of its own services and apps, Microsoft has often been criticized for not playing a very conducive role when it comes to bringing its mobile OS on par with Android and iOS.

Till now, tech evangelists and Nokia fans had been panning Microsoft for ignoring the Windows Phone 8 platform, however, it now seems that Nokia also wants Microsoft to get out of its slumber.

In a recent interview with International Business Times, Bryan Biniak, Vice President - App Development at Nokia, has fired salvos at Microsoft, subtly conveying the message that smartphone sales are suffering due to lack of updates.

He said, "We are trying to evolve the cultural thinking [at Microsoft] to say 'time is of the essence.' Waiting until the end of your fiscal year when you need to close your targets, doesn't do us any good when I have phones to sell today."

Biniak also talked about the problem related to lack of apps, and how it's affecting the consumer's perception against Nokia's Lumia smartphones.

"To give you a reason to switch, I need to make sure the apps that you care about on your device are not only on our phones, but are better. I also need to provide you unique experiences that you can't get on your other devices."

While the Windows Phone platforms boasts of 165,000 apps, a number of major apps including Instagram are missing form the platform. New releases and variants of popular games like Angry Birds and Temple Run also arrive on Windows Phone, months or sometimes years after they release their iOS and Android versions.

A lot of software development on the Windows Phone platform is being supported by Nokia, with the company developing its own imaging software for its camera-focused offerings.

LG Optimus G Pro phablet.

Nokia Lumia 625 with 4.7-inch Display Leaks.

Nokia is preparing to release its biggest Lumia smartphone ever. Images of the 4.7-inch Nokia Lumia 625 were leaked by China’s official radio communication device regulator after passing certification for the region.

The Lumia 625 is expected to come equipped with a 4.7-inch 800 x 480-pixel display, a dual-core 1.2GHz S4 processor, 512MB of RAM, a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, and LTE connectivity. The budget-friendly handset is clearly meant to target emerging markets, though the device was also recently spotted in an FCC document, suggesting it could arrive in the U.S. as an AT&T exclusive.

Nokia continues to struggle in its efforts to gain a foothold in the premium handset market, with Windows Phone claiming less than 10 percent of the U.S market, but the company has seen success targeting emerging markets with its line of low-cost smartphones. Chinese mobile phone giant ZTE that is the world's fourth largest mobile phone manufacturer has introduced six new smartphones and four new data card devices in India. The phones are priced between ₹ 5,000 and ₹ 15,000.

HTC One Mini Spotted In Leaked Photos.

It has been quite some time already that we have seen and heard about the HTC One mini, a smaller version of the flagship HTC One not only in terms of size, but it will also come with lesser hardware specifications to boot. Actually, there has been no official announcement of the smartphone to date, but we do know that this smaller sized model of the HTC One smartphone will arrive with a 4.3″ 720p display and powered by a dual-core Snapdragon chipset.

Panasonic P11 features a 5-inch 720p HD display, Android 4.1, and 1.2GHz quad-core processor. The phone will also come with 8MP rear camera, 1.3MP front camera and dual-SIM support.

In addition, P11 packs 3G support, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and 2000 mAh battery and the usual connectivity options. It will be priced at ₹ 16,890. Panasonic seems to be aiming at the budget phablets by the Indian mobile makers with the release of P11, and it certainly seems more value for money than the company’s P51.

Meanwhile Panasonic T11, will come with 4-inch WVGA IPS display, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, and Android 4.1. The phone also packs 3G, dual-SIM support, 5MP rear camera and 0.3MP front shooter.

In addition, Panasonic has included 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage, 1500 mAh battery, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in T11. The pricing in unclear at this moment but if Panasonic prices at under ₹ 10,000, it might turn out to be pretty popular among budget smartphone buyers.

Lenovo Overtakes HP to Become World's Top Computer Vendor.

Chinese computer manufacturer Lenovo has overtaken the US firm Hewlett Packard (HP) to become the world's leading PC maker, according to the research firm Gartner.

In a release, Gartner says that Lenovo has risen to the top for the first time in its history with a worldwide share of 15.7 percent, above HP which has a 15.5 percent share.

US tech company Dell has been placed third with a 10.5 percent share.

"In addition to acquiring other vendors, Lenovo has also taken an aggressive position on pricing, especially in the professional market," the research firm notes. As a result, Lenovo has achieved significant market share gains over the last two years, exceeding regional average growth rates across all regions.

Data from the firm also shows that Lenovo, which makes the ThinkPad, is the only computer manufacturer which has seen a year on year third quarter increase in shipments to the US.

Lenovo's second quarter profits increased 30 percent from the previous year to $144m (£92m) despite the slowdown in the Chinese economy due to falling global demand.
